SOLACE Residence

Calicut | 2020

Set within a compact site in Calicut, SOLANCE is a residence that blurs the boundary between inside and outside, designed as a response to Kerala’s tropical climate and dense urban context. Courtyards, deep overhangs, and green buffers anchor the home in nature, creating a spatial experience that feels both sheltered and open.

Passive cooling and ventilation strategies are integrated into the architecture, ensuring comfort throughout the year while reducing reliance on mechanical systems. Large openings and shaded zones encourage natural airflow and daylight, fostering a sense of calm, connected living.

TOSTEM GRANTS sliding systems enable expansive, uninterrupted openings that invite cross-ventilation and light into every space. Complementing this, TOSTEM aluminium louvers provide shading and privacy without compromising airflow or aesthetics, balancing openness with comfort.

At the entrance, the GIESTA main door offers security and a clean, modern frontage, aligning seamlessly with the project’s minimal, context-sensitive material palette. TOSTEM was chosen for its durability in coastal climates, refined engineering, and ability to support the architectural vision, resulting in a home that is understated yet alive, sensitive to its environment, adaptable in use, and deeply rooted in place.
